Perfect for students studying the Second World War and local history, the defensive history of the Newhaven Fort site dates back to the Iron Age. The fort that stands today was built in the 19th Century, following the threat of invasion by Napoleon III, and Newhaven Fort played a significant role in both the First and Second World Wars as part of a network of defences protecting the English coast.

Home Front Object
Handling Workshop
£6.50 per child
A captivating discovery workshop where children become History Detectives. Guided by a Fort Facilitator and using original WWII artefacts, they unravel information about the lives of local individuals. Includes an Air Raid experience. See the Object Handling Information Sheet for details.
